I would like to investigate the theme and concept of ‘time’ in my Personal Investigation. In photography I would argue that ‘time’ is as important an idea as light; it determines both functional settings of the camera and dictates much of the overall aesthetic of the images we see. Take Eadward Muybridge for example, his pioneering photography looking at motion makes for fascinating viewing – small thumb nails of a menagerie of animals and humans frozen in time were really the first examples of early animation.

Dark room processes revolve around the careful recording of time, and I have found the method of developing my own photographs fascinating in its visceral qualities. I would like to introduce these techniques in my Personal Investigation. Digitally, I have already experimented with both long and short exposures and I plan to further develop this theme using powder paints and impact to capture transient moments in time. I hope to move my project away from the technicalities of the camera, to look further at concept as subject matter.
